We've Got Your Number
But has it changed? If your phone number has changed since
the 2016 EE Name & Address Directory was printed last
January, or if you were not listed and wish to be, please notify Cheri Day at thedays007@aol.com
by Wednesday, January 4.
Book Discussion Group
Reminder that the January meeting will be held on
Tuesday, January 10, at noon at Los Agaves
restaurant. The January selection is Issac's Storm, and
will be discussed during the luncheon. Please contact Marla Ries at gvmarlaries@aol.com if you plan to attend the
luncheon. In February, the group will return to its regular
meeting time of the first Tuesday at 11:00 a.m. at the
Ramada.
Chili Forecast
No matter how cool the weather is on Friday, January
13, the EE Chili Cook-off will turn up the heat.
This is the second cook-off, and competition will be
fierce. The competition will be a "blind judging
" event so that contestants will be
anonymous and judging will be by attendees through secret
balloting. For $5 you can taste samples of each entry and
cast a vote for your favorite chili. Socializing starts at
4:30 p.m. at the Ramada, tasting starts at 5:00. The
Hospitality Team will provide corn bread, condiments, beer,
wine, soft drinks (and, a "First Aid" station).
Attention Chili Cook-off Contestants
Here are the rules if you plan to submit an entry to the
cook-off. Please notify
Marla Ries (gvmarlaries@gmail.com or 360-708-0855)
prior to Jan 13th if you wish to enter the competition and provide her with
the name of your recipe. Each competitor shall prepare, from
scratch, 5 - 10 quarts of ready to serve chili, presenting it
for the competition in a crock-pot or other slow cooker between
3:00 p.m. and 4:00 p.m. (entries must be received prior to
4:00), maintaining anonymity of the contributor. Advertising
or other forms of proclamation are highly discouraged.
However, the usual EE "smack talk" will be tolerated.
Traditional and creative recipes are encouraged. Prizes will
be awarded to the 1st, 2nd and 3rd place winners.

Auction
The Enhancement Team will be holding a live auction
at the Ramada on Friday, January 20.
You can preview the carefully curated items
from 12:00 - 1:00 p.m., and the auction starts
promptly at 1:00. As with all Enhancement events,
proceeds will benefit our neighborhood. The team is
still looking for donated items.
In addition to
interesting or high-end items, the auction will
include services. For example, if you are a great
cook, you could donate a homemade dinner. (I'll bid
on that one.) Call Linda Sielken at 908-240-1887
to donate.
Make Your Own Greeting Cards
Tired of spending hours perusing the card store displays for
just the perfect greeting card? At the EE Artisans gathering
on Thursday January 26 at 1:00, Marilyn
Peasley will teach card stamping using acrylic paints. She
will kit the project for $5 each. If you would like to
attend, please sign up by calling or texting Barbara
Copeland at 952-250-6716. Tea and treats will also
be served.
Fruit Abundance?
If that orange or grapefruit tree has produced a bounty
beyond belief this season, it's easy to share your good
fortune without lifting a finger--well almost. You'll have
to lift one finger to dial 625-5252 x7512
to bring the gleaners of the Community Food Bank of Green
Valley to your yard. They'll pick the fruit for you or pick
up what you've bagged.
Vehicle Etching
Safeguard your wheels with Sheriff's Auxiliary Volunteers (SAV)
vehicle identification etching. Your VIN will be etched into
each window as a deterrent to thieves. Take your
registration and title to the SAV office between
noon and 3 pm on Saturday, January 14th for this
free service.
